Walk for Wards is going virtual for 2020!

Our annual Walk for Wards is one of our biggest fundraising events, raising on average £15,000 a year to support local patients and staff across Sheffield hospitals. But just because we can’t hold the physical event this year, it doesn’t mean you can’t get your walking shoes on and make a difference to your local NHS.

All you have to do is take on a walk of any distance during September to support our amazing hospitals in Sheffield!

Four easy steps to join Walk for Wards:

  1. Register using the form below – If you’re walking as a group, we just need one of you to sign up.
  2. Set your fundraising target. £15 is the minimum sponsorship you should go for but there is no maximum! The more you raise, the more we can do to help patients and staff in our local hospitals.
  3. Set up your fundraising page. We recommend linking with our JustGiving campaign.
  4. Set your distance and get walking! Walk 5K, 10K or any distance you like.

Why you should Walk for Wards

When you take part you’ll be making a difference to your local hospitals when they need it the most. During the COVID-19 pandemic, NHS staff have been working harder than ever to make sure the people of Sheffield are cared for. By walking and fundraising, you’ll be supporting these staff members and the patients being treated by them. You can also choose to fundraise for a ward or area that means a lot to you or a loved one.

Where can I walk?

What’s great about a virtual walk is that you can take part anywhere you like! We’re so lucky to have some of the most picturesque walks right on our doorstep in Sheffield. Whether you enjoy a walk taking in the landscapes of the Peak District or prefer the bustle of a city walk, there’s a route for everyone. We've suggested a few routes in our fundraising pack that we'll send you when you sign up!

Don't forget to share your photos of your walks with us on social media. Find us on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

Keeping safe

We want you to enjoy your walk and be as safe as possible while you make a difference to your local hospitals. Here are a few tips to staying safe:

  • Limit the size of your walking group - your group should be up to six people from different households or if it’s larger, everyone should be from one or two households.
  • Walk two metres away from anyone who isn’t in your household or support bubble.
  • Make sure you have enough water and food for your walk.
  • Wash your hands or use hand sanitiser regularly, especially after touching any surfaces.

Due to the ever-changing situation with COVID-19, please make sure to check up-to-date government guidance on staying safe outside before you take on your walk.
