Rebecca Bond, aged 26, gave birth to her daughter Maisie on the 22nd of January weighing just 1lb 9oz’s, after her midwife was unable to locate her heartbeat at 25 weeks.

After further scans it was confirmed that Maisie’s heartbeat kept dropping and Rebecca was told she would have to deliver her baby.

Rebecca said: “It was completely unplanned and unexpected. I could hardly breathe as I had about 10 people around the bed prepping me for surgery. I was absolutely terrified. I just kept screaming and asking what was going to happen to the baby thinking that she wouldn’t survive.

“My partner Danny kept trying to calm me down, but he was just as hysterical as me.

“After the delivery, Maisie got taken straight to intensive care. Danny got to see her for a minute then the midwife took me down on my bed to see her about 6 hours later. The staff told us to prepare for the worst and take every hour as a positive sign and a blessing.

“The staff at Jessops are absolutely amazing, even though they are there to care for Maisie they always helped us too if we were having a bad or emotional day, honestly I will never be able to thank them enough."

Tyler, aged 5 will be taking part in Jessop’s Superheroes on the 9th June because he said he wanted to raise money for the hospital and staff that made his little sister better.

Rebecca continued: “We’re also so proud of Tyler for wanting to take part in Jessop Superheroes, it’s such a thoughtful and selfless thing to do.”

Maisie is making incredible progress

Maisie’s journey so far has not been easy, but she now weighs 2.5kg (5lb 8oz’s) and is doing really well, she is now on three hourly feeds and Rebecca is hoping to try her with a bottle later this week.

Originally the family had a fundraising target of £200, but they have already gone above and beyond this and keep increasing their target.

Maisie is making incredible progress and Rebecca and Danny are hopeful that they will be taking Maisie home in the near future.
