We are celebrating 21 years of The Jessop Wing helping to deliver the most precious gift of all.

Do you remember what you were doing 21 years ago? The Sheffield Teaching Hospitals were gearing up to open the doors of a brand new maternity hospital The Jessop Wing.

Over the last 21 years, The Jessop Wing has been the birthplace of approximately 147,000 babies. It is home to a 22-bed labour ward, three postnatal wards, one antenatal ward, a high dependency unit, and three state-of-the-art birthing pools. All of which are run by superhero staff that has cared for and supported babies, their mums, and families.

We want to celebrate the amazing staff who have worked tirelessly over the years to go above and beyond every day, to make this truly wonderful life experience the best it can be.

vCreate

vCreate is just one of the examples of how the staff goes the extra mile. vCreate is a video and messaging service that is used to help parents and families to see their baby when they can't be there with them and aren't able to spend time together as a family. This has such a positive impact in relieving some of the anxiety that new parents feel

Hannah's Story

Hannah Wilson and her husband Andrew, unfortunately, received the devastating news 30 weeks into Hannah's pregnancy that she had bowel cancer. Heartbreakingly, after the birth of their baby daughter Sadie they were told that the cancer was incurable and Hannah was given just weeks to live.

Two days later the couple, who had been together for ten years, decided to get married. The incredible staff on the Special Care Baby Unit at Jessops arranged for the wedding to be held there. Andrew said, "It was such an emotional day and the staff on the ward that organised it did such an amazing job for us."

Within 24 hours the team had booked and organised everything so that Hannah and Andrew could fulfil their wish of being married. Every last detail was covered by the wonderful staff; from a cake, flowers, and balloons to wedding favours. Hannah and Andrew's hospital room was even turned into a honeymoon suite complete with 'Just Married signs.

Sheffield Hospitals Charity is so proud to be able to provide the funds and support The Jessop Wing to be able to help families make special memories together.

Family Support Nurse

For most parents, the birth of a child is a joyful occasion and a time to celebrate. As a charity, we can fund a Family Support Sister, Rebecca Tazzyman.

Rebecca's role is based in the Neonatal Unit (NNU) and their primary focus is to help support families to understand what to expect when you have a baby in the NNU. Rebecca helps to implement changes that improve families' experiences using the generous donations we receive from supporters like yourself.

Over the last 21 years, your continued support has enabled us to fund projects that improve health, purchase state-of-the-art equipment, support pioneering research and services for patients and families. With your kind donations, we have transformed areas within The Jessop Wing to make it a more welcoming and comfortable space for staff, patients, and families across Sheffield.
