Last week, when Sheffield Hospitals Charity launched our ‘Support your NHS’ appeal, we vowed to stand shoulder to shoulder with our incredible NHS staff as they care for us at this time of real need. And we meant it.

Our job as an NHS charity is to support our amazing hospitals in Sheffield. And we know that during the Covid-19 pandemic, that help and support is needed more than ever. That is why we are proud to be able to announce that we have committed our first £5,000 grant to support truly remarkable staff members at our hospitals.

The grant will be used to purchase toiletries and food for staff working on the frontline in key hotspot areas during the current Covid-19 outbreak. As a charity we know how hard NHS staff are working at the moment and so we wanted to be able to provide them with something that might make their lives just that little bit easier. We are so proud of every one of our NHS staff - we want to care for them as they care for us.

When we told Angela Harris, Nurse Director for Acute and Emergency Medicine, she replied by saying: “Truly wonderful, you are amazing. You have made my cry with your generous offer.”

Over the next few weeks we will be working with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals to identify the best ways that we can support the hospitals and their staff. But we will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with them at this challenging time. Never have we been more proud to be their charity.

But we still need your help. We want to continue to support those incredible staff who are working on the frontline throughout this time. As we all follow government guidance and take care of ourselves, NHS staff do not have that option. They are continuing to work to care for us, and so it is only right that we take care of them.
