News Our news Keith Peters Big Band holds ‘dream’ concert to raise money for our Dementia Appeal As Keith approaches his 90th birthday, the band immediately began to organise this for him and they specifically chose a cause very dear to the band’s heart, Sheffield Hospitals Charity’s Dementia Appeal. After being launched just over two months ago, our appeal has already hit its initial target of £25K, but the appeal is on-going and needs further funds to continue to ensure patients with dementia receive the best possible care. The funds raised will contribute to physical changes to wards to make them more ‘dementia friendly’. The funds raised will contribute to physical changes to wards to make them more ‘dementia friendly’ and activities such as arts and music groups and memory sessions will help keep patients mentally and physically active. The Keith Peters Big Band is still going strong after forming over 40 years ago, back in 1978, and for any band to stay together this long it must be something special. The musicians come together once a week to rehearse and then open the doors once a month to share their talent with an incredibly loyal audience, which Keith lovingly refers to as ‘family’. The band have played many concerts over the years at their resident venue, currently Farm Road Social Club, but have also been invited to perform at other prestigious events. Almost 1,000 people attended a concert at Sheffield City Hall, another fundraising event for the then mayor’s charity, and have also played several times at the Music in the Park event at the Botanical Gardens. If the event were to be a sell-out, ticket sales alone would raise a grand total of almost £3000. So Keith is hoping as many local people as possible will be there to enjoy a wonderful evening of music from all eras of the big band tradition.
