Local sisters give back to life changing charity Local sisters are taking on a 15,000ft plunge to raise vital funds for a local charity, which helped to change their lives forever. Sarah and Charlotte Loxley will be taking to the sky on 19th August for the fundraising skydive to give thanks to Neurocare part of Sheffield Hospitals Charity. In 2017 Charlotte received revolutionary surgery using a ROSA robot, at the time it was a one of a kind in the UK and funded thanks to the generosity of the charity’s supporters. Charlotte had suffered with epilepsy since her diagnosis at 10 years old, the illness was partly controlled by medication, but by the age of 17 she was having seizures on a weekly basis. It was at this point that she was considered as a candidate for neurosurgery. The ROSA robot takes three dimensional images of the brain and helped to show where in the brain Charlotte’s seizures originated so that the surgeons, at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, could pinpoint with incredible accuracy where they needed to operate. ROSA’s precision is far less invasive and can reduce surgery times by up to 40% whilst also improving recovery time and surgical outcomes. It also offers real hope to people with poorly controlled epilepsy, deep seated brain tumours, Parkinson’s disease and other complex brain disorders. Charlotte is now four years and eight months seizure free thanks to ROSA, the team at RHH and Neurocare (part of Sheffield Hospitals Charity). Following the help she received during and after her surgery, Charlotte has become an avid supporter for the charity and has donated, volunteered and passionately supported the charity over the past five years. It has been a goal of hers to do a skydive for the charity and she has finally passed all the medial checks by her doctors to take on the adrenaline fuelled challenge. Sarah has agreed to support her sister and help the Charity raise funds. Having seen how ROSA has helped Charlotte she is well placed to say this: I have seen first-hand how Neurocare and ROSA can help to change a person’s life for the better and give them back the freedom to live to the fullest.
