Triathlon challenge for Myeloma Research Helen Elleker completed an endurance test like no other at the beginning of August. She challenged herself to complete the London Triathlon which consists of Olympic distances of 1,500m swim, 40km bike ride and then finishing off with a 10km run. The 3 ½ hour endurance test was used as a welcome distraction to concentrate on fundraising for Myeloma. In January, this year her husband Andrew was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma following surgery for a fractured vertebra. Myeloma is a cancer of the bone marrow and there is currently no cure. Andrew has undergone extensive chemotherapy and has recently had a stem cell transplant at the Royal Hallamshire hospital. Her husband’s consultant and his research team are currently conducting pre-clinical trials to find a cure. The research group need to raise £50,000 in order to commence clinical trials with patients in 2023. Helen has to date raised an incredible £5,500 following the completion of her Triathlon challenge. If you wish to donate and help her to reach the £6,000 target you can donate here www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Helen-Elleker If you're wanting to challenge yourself for a good cause but don't know where to start then get in touch with a member of the team via [email protected] today and we'd be happy to help!
