Please click here to download the file Meadowhall Shopping Centre is marking Baby Loss Awareness Week (9-15 October) with a number of initiatives to get alongside bereaved parents and families who have experienced loss. Together with the Jessop Bereavement Services Team, the Sheffield Hospitals Charity funded Arts in Health team will be in attendance at the shopping centre across the week. We caught up with the Bereavement Services Team to find out more about this week: SHC: What’s the main role of the Bereavement Teams across Sheffield Hospitals? BST: Our job is to be available within local hospitals to support families that may experience the loss of a baby. This could be everything from helping them receive difficult news in the moment, to helping them come to terms with their loss longer term. SHC: Tell us why Baby Loss Awareness Week is such an important date in the calendar? BST: Baby Loss Awareness Week is a national event that shines a spotlight on the devastating realities of baby loss. It’s a time when everyone can show solidarity with bereaved parents, but it’s also a chance to raise awareness about wellness in pregnancy, and to drive improvements in care. SHC: What will you be doing this week to mark Baby Loss Awareness Week at Meadowhall? BST: We will be there to answer questions people may have about pregnancy or baby loss. We are open to other family members who may wish to have someone listen to their memories of a lost baby, and we’ll have lots of information to share on pregnancy and baby loss support. The idea is to show people that they're not alone and pregnancy loss is more common that people think. It's all about talking about this subject which is often seen as taboo. SHC: How else can people pay tribute to their loved ones? BST: At our stand the Arts In Health team from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals will be running a craft station where those that want to can create origami butterflies, and share words in memory of babies lost. At the end of the week, the activities for Baby Loss Awareness Week culminate with with a globally recognised 'Wave of light', where families and friends can light a candle and leave it burning for 1 hour in memory of loved ones. Meadowhall will also be supporting this, by turning the lights in the dome pink and blue in memory of all babies that died too soon. The Jessop Bereavement Services team will also be holding a remembrance walk around Graves Park in Sheffield on Sunday 15th October at 11am.
