It's safe to say that all of us will need hospital care at some point in our lives through one or more of Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. We trust our NHS staff to take care of us when we need them most.

The last few years have been the most challenging ever for our NHS colleagues, with many staff feeling burnt out and exhausted.

We passionately believe in giving back to those that look after us, to those that put their patients before themselves.

It's more important than ever that we think about how we can create a better environment and provide better support for the very people that are there for us.

We've Got You is dedicated to supporting staff mental health and wellbeing initiatives. These include funding improvement of spaces for physical and mental relaxation, spaces where frontline workers can simply stop and breathe. Ensuring staff have access to dedicated forums and support from trained psychologists and funding of programmes for staff so that they can better support each other.

We need our NHS staff and they need us.

We want to share with you the ways we have been able to support staff over the years with your generous donations:

Calm Rooms

We have funded 64 calm rooms across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The calm rooms give all staff access to a safe and peaceful space where they can unwind and de-stress on a break or between busy shifts.

Outdoor Spaces

Wellbeing gardens have been implemented across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals- the first outdoor project was the rooftop garden at Weston Park Cancer Hospital Cancer Clinical Trials Centre. The space has allowed staff to access an outdoor area. Giving them a breathing space to have time out of the hospital.

The Secret Garden appeal was launched in 2020. The outdoor sanctuary for staff at Northern General Hospital has been designed to give staff a quiet, relaxed area to work from or to take space from busy wards.

The Secret Garden is set to open this summer for staff to make the most of the outdoor space.

Well-being Champions

Sheffield Hospitals Charity fund Wellbeing Champions across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. Wellbeing Champions are there to help improve the working environment for staff. They are there to ensure their colleagues take regular breaks to reflect and recharge, to keep hydrated, to keep them informed of how to proactively support their well-being and to encourage regular well-being conversations.

Wellbeing Champions also have notice boards across the hospitals within calm rooms that display well-being information for staff to access.

Psychological Support

On July 5th this year the National Health Service celebrates its 75th anniversary. Sheffield Hospitals Charity will be celebrating this important milestone and showing our appreciation to all of those who continue to work tirelessly to take care of us.
