Just two weeks after officially launching its ‘Secret Garden’ project, Sheffield Hospitals Charity has broken the £32,000 fundraising barrier.

Fundraising had already got off to a flying start before the appeal was even officially launched. But just two weeks after the official ground-breaking, the Charity is thrilled that, thanks to the fundraising efforts of local community group, An Nasiha, they have already hit the £32,000 mark.

An Nasiha are a community based voluntary sector organisation which helps disadvantaged people and helps others reinstate their connection with Islam. Founded in 2011 and run by Sheffield students, the organisation does considerable work to support local charities and local people.

They have been fundraising for the ‘Secret Garden’ project throughout the month of Ramadan, and following the celebration of Eid we are delighted to confirm that An Nasiha have raised more than £2,000 towards our target. Sheffield Hospitals Charity wishes to thank the group and all of its supporters for their dedicated generosity.

Today, representatives from An Nasiha visited the 'Secret Garden' site. Imam Zafrullah Khan Jamia Masjid Hanfia Tinsley said: “This is a very good initiative and we are proud to support it. It is a real opportunity to support hospital staff who have been working under such pressure.

“The garden will give those staff a space to get out into the open and unwind. It is absolutely right that we show care to NHS staff as they are the ones that care so much for us. I would encourage my whole community to support this project.”

Khaqan Shah, who is a leading member of An Nasiha, was delighted to be able to support the appeal: “Coming here today has inspired me because the way that the NHS has performed over these past 12 months and beyond has been amazing and it is right that we give staff the recognition they deserve.

“I can already see that this will be a calming, relaxing space to help staff throughout the day. But it also a community space as we all will use the Northern General Hospital at some point in our lives. I am very happy to support the project.”

Ben Green, PR & Communications Manager for Sheffield Hospitals Charity, said: “We, as a charity, were thrilled to be able to officially launch the Secret Garden project – we have been delighted by the positive response that the project has already had and so the official launch was a big step.

“A project like this will make a lasting difference, but it can not be done without the support of the people and businesses of Sheffield. We have always said that this is a community based project and so I want to give my thanks to all of those who have made donations, including An Nasiha whose incredible efforts have taken us over the £32,000 mark.

“We still have a long way to go and we still need your help to turn this into reality so please do get involved!”
